The Requirements

To meet the basic qualifications for the Software Development Team Leader opportunity, you must be a US Citizen or Green Card holder.

  • 5+ years of experience leading team members on a software development team. We will consider Senior Developers who informally guided team members and are ready to step up to a leadership position, or team leaders with direct experience overseeing a team.  
  • 5+ years of experience developing software solutions with particular expertise with:
    • Microsoft .net, preferably VB.net and associated development environment.
    • SQL.
    • SPC tools including JMP.

  • Relevant experience working in a manufacturing environment highly preferred; we will also consider candidates with a strong distribution background.

The Role

Opportunity Snapshot
Reporting to the Software Development Manager, as Software Development Team Leader, you will be responsible for leading an experienced sub-team of four developers within a larger software development team. You will be heavily involved in the planning, support, quality, including continuous improvement, and development of time-sensitive projects for proprietary coded software systems and associated interfaces. On a daily basis, you will interact with your supervisor, oversee your team and do hands-on coding. You will also communicate regularly with similar teams at other IQE sites, as well as build relationships and provide support to business users across the organization. 

Performing Your Role
You'll lead a team of experienced developers working on in-house system solutions and interacting with external developers. You'll split your time between direct leadership responsibilities and project management, including working directly with business users to identify their needs and build specs to meet those needs, and on development. Quick question for you - click here More specifically, in the following areas your responsibilities you will include:

PROJECTS / QUALITY
  • Coordinating and driving projects and change.
  • Facilitating the relationship of staff within IT and staff within the business teams and their processes.
  • Managing quality through code control, deployments, development procedures with best practices, automation, tools usage, dos and don'ts.
SOFTWARE
  • Working within the systems architecture and providing design, development, support and maintenance of coded software solutions.
  • Interfacing with ERP system/systems and other necessary systems (including legacy) and equipment that holds essential data for the systems to function.
  • Performing hands-on coding, troubleshooting and fixing.
  • Providing database monitoring, tuning and admin tasks, including setup configuration and security.
  • Planning data and defining requirements for storage, archiving and backup for infrastructure team.
  • Understanding and working within operating processes, conditions and requirements.
PROCESSES
  • Updating and continually improving processes to ensure functionality throughout the system development lifecycle, including regular operational analysis.
  • Heavy involvement in process planning, work scheduling and prioritizing, based on the business and management requirements.
  • Providing scoping, requirements gathering, documenting, estimating and ROI analyses on work carried out by the team, i.e. effort (time and cost) – result (time and value).
  • Supporting users in writing their specs and helping them standardize their business processes with the goal of developing and supporting one standardized system for the group of companies and minimizing or removing variation or conditions by site.
TEAM LEADERSHIP
  • Coordinating and supporting all tasks within the sub-development team, including IQE staff and external contractors as appropriate. 
  • Reporting progress and solving issues within the team, keeping management informed as appropriate.
  • Updating and driving team development, knowledge management, skills matrix, reviews, performance management and correction. Ensuring any knowledge gaps are corrected with suitable training.
  • Training staff or receiving training, using all tools available, including the video library and cross-employee training.
  • Under the guidance of management, effectively delegating to the team to promote ownership.
  • Risk mitigation, such as ensuring that staff is trained and covering the full system to eliminate support gaps.
  • Working closely and effectively communicating with managers and staff in IT to ensure important information is conveyed in time to plan and carry out their function effectively.
  • Providing after-hours support and acting as a backup for the developers as needed. From time to time, a shift pattern may be required to be worked.
  • Working proactively to ensure team members are happy in their environment and committed and loyal to the role in order to build the culture and maintain staff retention. It is important to listen to their views and support/discuss regularly.
Additional responsibilities will include:
  • Reporting.
  • Hosting, contributing to and following-up (minutes and actions) a variety of meetings.
  • Monitoring performance and staff utilization to ensure we are effective and meeting KPIs.
  • Identifying risks, suggesting mitigation plans and carrying out those plans once approved.
  • Operating as a trusted advisor by supporting stakeholders' needs while also clearly explaining the conditions required to achieve their requests.
